Why Are Self-Storage Units Useful When Moving?

Blog

In Australia, many people move quite successfully by packing up all of their belongings and taking them directly to their new address without the need to rely on any temporary storage solution whatsoever. This is often possible when you hire a professional removals company to assist you with loading and unloading. It is also more likely to be the case when you are moving to a larger property where there is a greater storage capacity already. However, storage units will often come into their own during a relocation. What benefits does this sort of storage afford movers?

Suffer Less Stress

To begin with, it should be mentioned that many professional removals companies provide storage units as a part of their service. Even if your appointed company does not, then it is likely that you will be able to find a self-storage facility close to where you live. After all, nearly every Australian town and city has one these days. Putting things into storage before your move means that less needs to be transferred on your actual moving day. In turn, this will cut down on the amount of work that needs to occur, something that can lower your stress levels dramatically.

Move With Greater Ease

Another important point about putting some of your belongings into storage is that it takes very little effort. If you have all of your possessions stored in crates in your new home, then they can often get in the way and make it more difficult to arrange your furniture and so on. By placing items into temporary storage, you are not doing without them permanently, but it means making the transition into your new living space so much easier. Why take things that you won't need for a couple of months when they are just going to get in the way? This is especially so, of course, if you are moving into a smaller property or when two households are becoming one.

Take Good Care of Your Treasured Belongings

Finally, it should be noted that most professionally run storage facilities offer a high degree of security. Therefore, if you have something valuable that you don't necessarily want to leave unattended while everything else is being sorted out at your new address, then it is a good idea to put it into a secure storage location. Many temporary self-storage units will only allow authorised access, and some even have additional security measures, such as 24/7 guard protection, to prevent unwarranted access.

Storing my stuff while I'm on exchange

I'm going on a year of foreign exchange, so I am moving all of my stuff into a storage unit until I get back so I can save money on rent. I don't have much money so I am trying to do this for as little money as possible as I want to make sure that I know the best way to pack things to save space and get the smallest possible unit. This blog has some of the tricks that I have picked up in packing my household in the most space-efficient way and should be useful for anyone else packing up a household for storage.
