5 Important Factors to Prepare for Before Hiring a Furniture Removalist

Blog

Hiring a furniture removalist for your move can reduce the stress and anxiety of the whole situation. With furniture removalists on your side, you won't need to worry about the heavy lifting and organizing on moving day. But before you hire furniture removalists prepare yourself and your home accordingly.

Although professional furniture removalists have the experience and skill to overcome moving day issues, you still need to prepare in advance to avoid unforeseen issues.

1. Time

Time is your most valuable asset during a move, whether you are three months or three days away from your move. Hire your movers well in advance. If you wait too long, you might not get the company you want. Consider the time of year your move is taking place in too. If your move is going to take place during the summer, for instance, book removalists months in advance.

2. Furniture

How much of your furniture do you plan to keep? The chances are that you might give away or sell some of your furniture before you move. So, before your removalists come to your house to calculate the price of your move based on your home's contents, decide what stays and what goes. This will prevent confusion on moving day.

3. Storage

You might also want to put some of your furniture into storage to make your move a little easier. For instance, if your new home isn't quite ready, you can put most of your furniture into storage and gradually move it into your new home after your move. Thus, it's a good idea to find a furniture removalist that has their own storage facility.

4. Space

Make sure you check the spacing in your new home. The furniture in your current home might not fit comfortably into your new home. Or it might not fit in the way you want it to. Prepare for these issues in advance by taking some measurements well before moving day.

5. Damage

Check your furniture for sharp edges or parts that might damage walls, stairs and flooring as your removalists carry it. You can help your removalists out by informing them of any awkward spacing in your current and new home too. This will help both of you to prepare in advance to avoid causing damage to furniture and surfaces on moving day.

Furniture removalists can make your move an easy one. But be sure to prepare for the above factors before your big move arrives.

Storing my stuff while I'm on exchange

I'm going on a year of foreign exchange, so I am moving all of my stuff into a storage unit until I get back so I can save money on rent. I don't have much money so I am trying to do this for as little money as possible as I want to make sure that I know the best way to pack things to save space and get the smallest possible unit. This blog has some of the tricks that I have picked up in packing my household in the most space-efficient way and should be useful for anyone else packing up a household for storage.
